Disability

Jenny designs goal-oriented individual music therapy programs, making sure that the client is the driver of their program with their health needs and musical interests at the centre. Activities may include singing, playing and learning instruments, melodic intonation therapy, improvisation, song writing and guided listening to music. Jenny has experience with people who have neurological conditions, neurodegenerative conditions, mental health conditions and acquired brain injuries.

Childhood

Jenny works with autistic children as well as children with developmental delays, from the age of 2 to 13. Sessions usually include a parent or carer and often other siblings, depending on the family situation. Music can provide an effective non-verbal therapy with playfulness and creativity allowing for emotional self-expression and self-regulation in a safe and supported environment. Improvisation, playing instruments, drumming, movement, song-writing and singing are some of the musical techniques used in a child-led approach.

Parent and Infant Attachment and Development

The birth of a new baby is such a joyful time for a family but it can also be daunting and stressful, with so much for a new parent to learn. With a focus on voice, music therapy can help provide a calm and safe space for communication, supporting the development of strong relationships between parents and infants. Evidence shows that music enhances the infant’s emotional development, encouraging awareness and development of fine and gross motor skills and fostering language development. Birth to 6 months of age.

Aged Care and Dementia

Listening to and/or singing familiar music can elicit forgotten memories, opening up neural communication networks and bringing joy to older people’s daily lives. Jenny visits Aged Care facilities, running individual sessions, and is also available to visit people in their private homes. Singing, listening, playing instruments and gentle movement to music is a beautiful form of care that helps to alleviate the loneliness, depression and isolation that older people and those suffering from dementia can experience.

Online sessions

Jenny runs individual online sessions using Zoom for those who are self isolating or in remote locations.
